Counselling and Support
Counselling and Support Services for Families
Public and independent institutions serve as contact points for families during pregnancy or after the birth of their children. Specialists and experts support mothers and fathers with questions of upbringing.
Support during pregnancy and after the birth of the child
Numerous maternal counselling centres are spread over the Hamburg city area. The experts are there to answer your questions about nutrition and care and offer examinations of babies and small children. The "Wellcome" team will also support you after the birth of your children by going to the paediatrician, shopping, taking care of your siblings or other matters relating to the daily lives of young families. In addition, the family teams of the City of Hamburg are at your side if you feel overwhelmed with the newborn during pregnancy or in everyday life.
Exchange with other parents
The Hanseatic City's parent-child centres offer an open parent-child club, play and learning hours for children, parent-child offers as well as parental education, information and counselling. Parents can use these offers without registering and without a day-care voucher. Mothers' centres also offer mothers with small children the opportunity to meet other women from the district, make contacts and exchange experiences, while the children are looked after in the centres. In the case of questions as well as for the exchange about child education, parents' schools serve as contact and counselling centres for expectant parents, single parents and families. The Protestant and Catholic family education centres supplement this offer and offer education, counselling and support in all areas of family life.
Support for the upbringing of children
The educational counselling centres of the district offices, churches and independent organisations offer families, children and young people orientation and information talks, crisis intervention and counselling as well as therapies for problems in the family. As part of the Hamburg District Offices, the General Social Service/Allgemeiner Sozialer Dienst (ASD) also supports and advises parents in raising their children. And for single mothers and fathers, Hamburg also offers a wide range of counselling services on topics such as family law, money, returning to work, childcare and reconciling work and family life.
