Good language skills are often helpful when settling in a new country. That's why it makes sense to learn German. A very effective possibility are language courses directly on the spot. So you can practice speaking right away and get to know the culture at the same time.
Under certain conditions, you can obtain a residence permit for taking part in a language course. The residence permit can be issued for a maximum of one year.
The language course must be an intensive language course and meet the following requirements:
- Limited duration
- Daily lessons with a minimum of 18 lessons per week
- The aim is to acquire comprehensive German language skills.
Evening and weekend courses do not meet these requirements. Language courses used to prepare students for university are also not included. For language courses in preparation for studies, you can instead apply for a residence permit for students.
Requirements:
- Entry with a German visa for the purpose of studying. The German mission abroad in your home country is responsible for issuing visas.
- Exception: Nationals of Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Brazil and the United States of America can enter without a visa.
- Proof of participation in an intensive language course (certificate from the language school, at least 18 hours per week)
- Proof of financing (1,027.40 EUR per month), alternatively a Declaration of Commitment
- Sufficient health insurance
