Tradition and innovation - this five-star hotel overlooking the Elbe river is among Hamburg's most luxurious.

Louis C. Jacob - 5-star luxury hotel by the Elbe river

Little did confectioner Maria Elisabeth Burmester know that her marriage to the Huguenot Louis Jacob in 1791 would eventually bring about one of Hamburg’s most renowned hotels. The French landscape architect set out to add a beautiful lime tree terrace to the confectionery. Cake and wine came with a great view over the mighty Elbe river ─ a formula that proved successful. In the late 19th century the family business was turned into a hotel and the rest is history.

Today, the 85 room riverside palace combines tradition and modernity. The beautiful hotel is protected as a historic monument and the interior still evokes turn of the century elegance, though its luxurious spa, rooms and wine bar are fully state-of-the-art. This combination has made Louis C. Jacob the first choice of many A-list celebrities over the decades. Robert Redford even got married here in 2009.

The pride and joy of the five-star hotel, however, is Jacob’s Restaurant. Two Michelin stars bear witness to the kitchen’s grandeur, where North German local produce meets French haute cuisine ─ much like when a certain Huguenot settled by the Elbe river.
