Two prominent green-roofed towers mark the 205-metre-long terminal between the lower port area, Reeperbahn and Fischmarkt. Located by the Elbe, the Landungsbrücken (lit. 'landing bridges') were once a landing pier for steam ships, and they now function as a connector for various lines of Hamburg's local train and ferry systems. Some harbour ferries and catamarans depart on their trips to Helgoland while others take every wannabe-seafarer down the Elbe river for the price of bus fare. And if you have a ticket to see The Lion King or Mary Poppins musicals , the Landungsbrücken ferries will also carry you over to the waterfront theatres. Other sites close to the piers include the Alter Elbtunnel (lit. 'Old Elbe Tunnel') under the river as well as museum ships Rickmer Rickmers and Cap San Diego. A variety of restaurants and gift shops go hand in hand with the striking view of massive container and cruise ships, especially since over the last decades the piers have developed into one of Hamburg's most popular promenades.
