The Sunshine Island
Germany's third largest island is an idyllic holiday destination, known as Germany's 'sunshine isle'. If being active is more your thing, then Fehmarn Island has plenty to offer. A popular windsurfing spot thanks to its perfect conditions, it also hosts the annual KiteSurf-Trophy to showcase this exciting sport.
The miles of countryside, fields and meadows also allow visitors to take things at a gentler pace. Fehmarn is popular with birdwatchers, and has over 200 different species in the Wallnau nature area, which is one of North Germany's best ecological environments.
