At 4 million square metres, Ohlsdorf Cemetery is it the largest cemetery park in the world. Since 1877 it has become the final resting place for 1.4 million Hamburg residents. Graves, mausoleums, chapels and memorials are scattered about the park under trees and along the banks of canals and ponds.

The cemetery receives approximately 1.2 million visitors every year. Some of them just take a peaceful stroll, others seek out the burial places of famous Hamburg citizens, like actor Hans Albers, author Wolfgang Borchert, former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt or physicists Heinrich and Gustav Hertz.

Information boards, guided tours, a museum and an educational nature trail ensure your trip to Ohlsdorf cemetery is both relaxing and informative.
