Tina Turner: Queen of Rock

12 Grammy Awards and more than 200 million records sold made Tina Turner one of the greatest stars in music history. No other solo artist has ever sold more tickets, and fans all over the world know no age limit — just like Tina herself.

From Modest Beginnings to Stardom

Tina Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock, started her music career in Nutbush, Tennessee’s local church choir. At age 17 she married Ike Turner. Together they wrote multiple hit songs and went on to become a much-acclaimed pop duo in the 1960s. Their private life was less glamorous, however. In 1976, Tina severed all ties to her abusive ex-husband.

As a mother of four, she kept working tenaciously and wrote all-time classics like ‘What's Love Got to Do With It’, ‘Simply the Best’, ‘We Don't Need Another Hero’ and ‘Private Dancer’ in the process.

Award-Winning Musical

Tina’s success story was featured along with all her hits in Katori Hall and Phyllida Lloyd's musical biography. And Tina Turner herself took part in the writing process to guarantee the story’s accuracy. Tina premiered in London in 2018, and from March 2019 to August 2022, the musical was enjoyed at the Reeperbahn’s famous Operettenhaus.
