When Julia Roberts’ and Richard Gere’s characters fell for each other, a whole generation of movie-goers fell with them. Known for its fun performances and compelling soundtrack, Pretty Woman is still a fan-favourite among romcom audiences far and wide.

A Modern-Day Love Story

Pretty Woman’s love-story has been deeply ingrained into the minds of movie audiences since the film’s premiere in 1990. Street-smart escort Viv meets ambitious businessman Edward, who pays her generously to play his girlfriend on a business trip. Viv soon finds herself in a glamorous world of operas, designer clothes and luxury hotels, as an all-consuming romance between two star-crossed lovers ensues.

Award-Winning Creativity

In August 2018, Pretty Woman celebrated its world premiere on Broadway, leaving audiences and critics alike transfixed by this new stage adaptation. The musical’s success was in large part thanks to director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell, the Tony Award winner who brought Pretty Woman to life on stage. Of course kudos must also be given to the film’s original director, Garry Marshall, who was partly responsible for adapting the script for Broadway.

Soundtrack by Bryan Adams

A musical isn’t complete, however, without first-class tunes. For Pretty Woman, a total of 21 new songs were written. The compelling mixture of ballads and upbeat pop songs was created by Grammy winner Bryan Adams. With all-time classics like ‘Summer of ‘69’ and ‘Everything I Do’ under his belt, Adams in a household name in the US, Germany and across the globe.

Hamburg History

Pretty Women played in Hamburg at the Theater an der Elbe from September 2019 until what should have been its two-year run was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
