RICHARD TERMINE

In 2019, Paramour crossed the Atlantic to premiere in Hamburg, giving Germany’s musical capital yet another spectacular show to brag about. After its Broadway premiere in 2016, the honour fell to Hamburg to be the show's first host city outside North America. The city’s tradition-rich Neue Flora theatre offered the perfect setting for a new kind of stage entertainment combining the best of two of the world’s biggest theatrical producers: Stage Entertainment’s classical elements like music and theatre, paired with the artistic ingenuity of the Québécois powerhouse Cirque du Soleil.

The Plot

Paramour is set in the golden age of Hollywood. A star-crossed love triangle develops around the successful director AJ, the up-and-coming actress Indigo and the young piano player Joey. For Indigo it comes down to making a decision between love and career.

The cast of every performance consists of six musicians, 15 actors and 23 acrobats. Circus acts include trapeze, trampoline, pyramid and juggling performances. Aerial stunts are partly carried out above the heads of the audience. The collaboration with Cirque du Soleil doesn’t only promise breakneck artistry but also even more colourful characters and costumes as well innovative lighting and stage decorations.
