Stadtfest St. Georg: A Street Festival for Everyone
The quarter of St. Georg is known for its cultural diversity and welcoming vibe, and the annual street festival along the Lange Reihe reflects this perfectly. Regardless of heritage, religion, nationality, or sexual identity — all are explicitly welcome to enjoy the weekend's festivities.
At the heart of the action is the Lange Reihe, where countless stands present the neighbourhood's offerings of handicrafts, snacks, coffee, and drinks, as well as information about local organisations, clubs, and initiatives. The festival has been organised by AHOI Events on behalf of the Bürgerverein zu St. Georg von 1880 RV since 2010, with a clear aim: to bring together the full diversity of the neighbourhood, including its community groups, associations, and cultural institutions.
Music & Entertainment
The Culture Stage on Carl-von-Ossietzky-Platz, presented by Kulturladen St. Georg, is a centrepiece of the festival. Starting in the early afternoon with choirs, dance groups, and artistic contributions from the neighbourhood, it builds into a varied live programme in the evening. A DJ Tower keeps the atmosphere going throughout the weekend.
For the Family
Families are well catered for at the dedicated family area between Schmilinskystrasse and Bülaustrasse, with attractions including a bouncy castle, bungee trampoline, and a virtual reality station. Bargain hunters, meanwhile, will find plenty to browse at the flea market stretching along Baumeisterstrasse and Hansaplatz.
Beyond the Street
The festival extends beyond the Lange Reihe itself, with a supporting programme offered by local institutions across the neighbourhood, including the Ohnsorg Theater, Deutsches SchauSpielHaus, and St. Marien-Dom. A free festival magazine is published each year, available at outlets across Hamburg and online at www.stadtfest-stgeorg.de.
