Altländer Butterkuchenlauf: A Sweet Running Tradition Just Outside Hamburg

For over a decade, the Altländer Butterkuchenlauf run has delighted runners and cake lovers alike in the picturesque Altes Land region, just outside Hamburg. This annual event combines the joy of running with a delicious tradition — every participant is treated to a slice of mouth-watering Altländer Butterkuchen cake.

The Butterkuchenlauf offers various routes ranging from 6 to 18 kilometres, making it suitable for runners of all abilities, including children who can join the even shorter fun run. Participants will run along scenic paths, farm tracks, roads, and cobblestone streets.

Entry fees range from €3.50 to €21, with all proceeds going to local clubs and organisations in the Altes Land. In 2022, the event raised an impressive €6,000 for charity. 2023 saw 1,000 participants; the youngest was just 3 years old and the oldest born in 1943 — it’s clear that this event attracts people of all ages and abilities.

Online registration is recommended, though on-site sign-ups are also available. If you're looking for a fun and meaningful way to enjoy the autumn, the Altländer Butterkuchenlauf is an event not to be missed!
