A diverse cultural programme took place in Hamburg around the 2024 European Football Championship. While a total of five matches took place in the Volksparkstadion from 14 June to 14 July 2024, various Hamburg cultural organisers presented projects combining football and culture, including dance, performance, music and opera. Thanks to funding from the Stiftung Fußball & Kultur EURO 2024 gGmbH, numerous projects were brought to fruition. Here you will find the exhibitions and performances that can still be visited.
A Football Opera in Hamburg
The Opernloft in the district of Altona takes musical perspective on football: On 31 May, the Football Opera premiered, with additional performances scheduled through the middle of November. Young singers transform the Opernloft at the Alter Fährterminal docks into a stadium, with an engaging mix of fan chants and passionate opera arias. Director Inken Rahardt has created an exciting piece full of energy and drama, with a scheduled duration of exactly 90 minutes.

11 Walls | 11 Goals Across Germany
The FC St Pauli football club also partnered with 11 Walls | 11 Goals, a project of Viva con Agua ARTS. In the context of this project, 14 artists adorned eleven walls in the ten German Euro 2024 host cities with murals. Each mural became the individual expression of a social goal for Europe to which the artists have dedicated themselves. In addition, there were ten concerts to accompany the visual street art. Two of these murals can be found in Hamburg: one at the Millerntor stadium, making the mural there part of this year's Millerntor Gallery. The grand closing evening of 11 Walls | 11 Goals took place on 30 May at the Millerntor stadium, with live concerts and much more.

Germany vs. Italy: A Football Classic
Football stickers tell the story of the European Championship. The exhibition contains 19 large-format panels and a selection of original Panini albums from the private collection of Gianni Bellini, the world's largest and most important collector of football stickers.
The exhibition focuses on the historical development of collector's pictures, typography in football and the Italian and German goalkeepers of past European Championships. One focus is on the four direct European Championship matches between Germany and Italy - 1988, 1996, 2012 and 2016 - and another on German and Italian footballers who played in the other country.
The opening took place on 12 June 2024, 7 p.m. and will run until 30 August.
