A whole host of colourfully decorated floats, parading by hundreds of thousands of creatively-dressed party animals, all singing at the top of their lungs to German disco-pop: welcome to Schlagermove, the world's biggest event of its kind.
Highlights from Schlagermove Parades
If you want to jump fully into German party culture, simply don a few cheesy '70s revival clothes and join the celebration. Join the massive parade around the famous St. Pauli district, and by the end, you might even be able to sing along to some German evergreen hits.
Grand Parade on Saturday
The great celebration starts on Saturday afternoon, 3 p.m., beginning at the Heiligengeistfeld square in St. Pauli, where the trucks and floats are getting ready to roll. Taking part in the parade is free for everyone. From the Heiligengeistfeld, the colourful parade moves down to the Landungsbrücken piers, along the St. Pauli Hafenstraße, the famous Fish Market, up again to and along the notorious Reeperbahn nightlife district, and finally back to the Heiligengeistfeld.
Every year, there are around 50 trucks and floats that form the core of the party parade. Through traffic is blocked along most parts of the route during the parade, so it's safe to walk and dance on the streets. The parade ends at about 8:30 p.m. at the Heiligengeistfeld with plentiful options for continuing the celebrations.
Please note: St. Pauli, alongside all its nightlife, is still a residential neighbourhood. Please respect the local residents and their properties. Public mobile toilets and restrooms in participating establishments are available all along the route. Accessing the residents' front gardens and backyards is strictly off limits.
Before and After the Parade
To complement the parade on Saturday, the event is framed by a weekend full of celebrations: on Friday night, Heiligengeistfeld square will transform into a large party area, with the Schlagermove in Concert Open Air festival featuring live performances and DJs sets. Admission is limited, and tickets are available via the Schlagermove website.
After the parade on Saturday is over, the free party will continue in the outdoor area until 12 a.m. At the same time, the live music and event venue DOCKS opens its doors for the official Aftermove party – from 6 p.m. well into Sunday morning.
