Hamburg hip-hop grows on fertile soil. Since the 90s, the city has been calling the shots when it came to German beats and rhymes, with artists like Dendemann, Absolute Beginner and Fettes Brot calling the city home. To maintain the front-runner status, Spektrum Festival was founded in 2012. Starting out with around 600 visitors, the small festival on the river island of Wilhelmsburg has grown steadily and now attracts about 8,000 German rap and hip-hop fans annually. True to its name, this one-day snapshot of modern German rap culture sheds a light on the manifold spectrum of the genre. From traditional boom bap to experimental electronic music, a total of 24 different groups will make the masses sweat. The industrial charm by the canals of the Hamburg port area does the rest to make this a one-of-a-kind experience.
