Courtyards Behind Große Bleichen
Hamburg’s Neustadt still hides courtyards behind the shopfronts of Große Bleichen. The listed Stadthöfe, also known as the Bleichenhof, sit between Neuer Wall and Jungfernstieg. They are brick passages where people live and work as well as shop, a pocket of inner-city quiet a few metres from the city’s luxury mile. In late August those yards fill with glasses, a Champagne bar and a live soundtrack. It is the inner city’s own wine weekend, right among the façades.
Four Days After St. Pauli
From 27 to 30 August 2026 the fourth Vive le Vin pours more than 50 wines and Champagnes from Germany, Italy and further afield, with a Moët & Chandon Champagne bar among the stalls. Food leans French: a shrimp pan, Breton crêpes and galettes, Flammkuchen and cheese. DJ sets, saxophone and live bands run through the evenings. Admission is free; you pay for what you taste.
The weekend follows the St. Pauli Wine Festival on Spielbudenplatz, and the two are not the same night out. St. Pauli takes over the open square between the Reeperbahn and the Tanzende Türme. Vive le Vin stays in Neustadt, in courtyards a short walk from the Alster.
