Exploring Hamburg’s Queer Past and Present

Queer History Month in Hamburg is a city-wide event dedicated to exploring the diverse histories of LGBTQIA+ communities. Throughout May, a variety of exhibitions, city tours, and workshops highlight the struggles, achievements, and cultural contributions of queer individuals in Hamburg. The initiative, organized by local LGBTQIA+ communities and allies, aims to provide new perspectives on the city’s history while advocating for human rights and inclusivity.

The program features a range of events, from guided city walks tracing queer resistance during the Nazi era to exhibitions showcasing LGBTQIA+ art and literature. Visitors can explore feminist archives, honour persecuted individuals, and engage in discussions about historical and contemporary challenges. Open to everyone, Queer History Month fosters understanding and visibility. By remembering the past, the event paves the way for a more inclusive future.
