Discovering Hamburg’s World Heritage
Since 2015, the Speicherstadt, the Kontorhaus District, and the iconic Chilehaus have been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for their architectural and historical significance. In honour of the 10-year anniversary of this designation, Hamburg hosts the Lange Nacht des Welterbes – an evening that opens doors to hidden corners of the city’s most treasured landmarks. Visitors are invited to experience guided tours, behind-the-scenes access, and cultural performances ranging from poetry slams to a cappella concerts. The event brings together museums, cultural institutions, and businesses of the district to highlight the vibrant life that continues within these historic walls.

Beyond the tours and performances, a highlight of the evening is the Festival of Lights, where the Speicherstadt becomes a vast projection surface for artistic storytelling. Buildings such as Speicherblock P are transformed into glowing canvases, bringing the history of Hamburg’s trade and architecture to life through light and sound. Whether marvelling at projections along the canals, exploring museums like Miniatur Wunderland or the International Maritime Museum, or sampling delights at the Speicherstadt coffee roastery and spice museum, the night offers a fusion of history and modern creativity.
