Large and Small Cruise Ships
The Cruise Center Altona, which opened in 2011, is Hamburg’s port of call for mid-size cruise ships. Its quay is 360 metres long, perfect for docking the older vessels in the AIDA fleet and other ships up to 300 metres in length.
The glass-fronted terminal building (with the check-in area for the passengers) is just under 16 metres high, so the view from the Altonaer Balkon lookout over the River Elbe and the moored cruise ships is kept as unobstructed as possible.
Sights such as the Dockland building, the Altona Town Hall and the Christianskirche church are just a few minutes on foot, and the St. Pauli Fish Market and the Museum Harbour Oevelgönne are also within easy walking distance or just a ferry stop away.
Shore Power Supply
Cruise ships can be supplied with shore power at the Altona Cruise Terminal: the facility officially opened in 2016, and the AIDAsol was the first ship to make use of the service. By using shore power, ships can switch off their engines while lying in port, which reduces carbon emissions.
A bistro and, above all, the terminal’s large roof terrace are perfect places to kick back and relax. Whilst enjoying a light snack, day trippers and ship afficionados alike are invited to take in the unobstructed view of the ocean liners, wave to the cruise passengers on deck and dream of faraway destinations.
Getting There
We strongly recommend travelling to the Cruise Center Altona by public transport:
- From the Landungsbrücken piers, take the HADAG ferry line 62 to the Dockland stop. The cruise terminal is right next to the ferry dock.
- From Altona train station, take bus line 111 to Kreuzfahrtterminal Altona stop. The stop is just in front of the terminal building.
