Prerequisites
- They have moved to Hamburg from another federal state to live in a sole residence, a main residence or a secondary residence and are already living there.
- They are staying in Hamburg for more than 6 months.
Documents required
- Your valid identification document (identity card, passport, passport substitute)
- and, if applicable, additionally
- Your eID card or
- Your (electronic) residence permit
- Landlord's confirmation with the following information (the submission of the rental agreement cannot replace the landlord's confirmation):
- Name and address of the landlord and, if the landlord is not the owner, also the name of the owner,
- Move-in date,
- address of the apartment as well as
- Names of all persons moving into the apartment
- When moving into a residential property, additionally a purchase agreement or land register extract is required.
- Please bring your original civil status documents to prove your marital status and, if applicable, your name (for example, birth certificate/birth register, marriage certificate, name declaration). In the case of a divorce, the legally valid divorce decree must also be brought along.
- If applicable, original identification documents and written powers of attorney from the absent persons whose change of address you are reporting.
Please note
If you wish to re-register minor children up to the age of 16 without both legal guardians, please contact the relevant authority by telephone in advance.
If you want to re-register your minor child, who has previously lived with both parents in a main residence, into your new main residence without the other parent, you will need the consent of the other parent, a written agreement on the child's center of life or a family court decision on the transfer of sole custody.
The same applies if you wish to change the sole or main residence of your minor child from the residence of one parent to the residence of the other parent.
From the age of 16, minors can re-register without the consent of their legal guardians.
Married couples can register their partner in a shared apartment without a power of attorney, but only by presenting their identity card.
For spouses, life partners and family members with the same arrival date (date of arrival as well as previous and current residences), registration by one of the persons required to register is sufficient.
