Social compensation - Apply for a one-off payment for victims of violent crimes abroad

Did you suffer a health injury during a stay abroad? Under certain circumstances, you may be entitled to compensation.

Detailed description

If you live in Germany and suffered physical harm as a victim of a violent crime during a temporary stay abroad, you may be eligible for compensation under certain conditions. The compensation is paid as a one-time payment. The amount of the payment depends on the severity of your injury.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • You have your residence or habitual abode in Germany.
  • They were temporarily abroad at the time of the incident.
    • A stay abroad is considered temporary if it lasts less than 6 months, or, in the case of school attendance or university studies, no more than one year.
  • It is a recognized, harmful event.
  • They have suffered health damage with a degree of impairment of at least 30.

Documents required

  • Proof of the recognized damaging event during a temporary stay abroad
  • Proof of the degree of damage

Procedure

  • You contact the relevant authority and explain your request. If necessary, you can seek individual advice from the relevant authority.
  • You submit your application to the relevant authority and attach the necessary documents.
  • The relevant authority will review your claim.
  • The responsible authority will decide on your application and inform you of the decision in writing.

Processing time

The processing time depends on the individual case and usually takes several weeks.
