For more than 35 years there has been a voluntary interest group for the 60+ generation at state level and in Hamburg's districts. The Senior Advisory Boards successfully advocate for the elderly.
From April 2013, the senior citizens' representatives for the new four-year term of office until 2017 were formed and elected for the first time on the basis of the new Hamburg Senior Citizens ' Participation Act. This has created reliable framework conditions and strengthened the participation of senior citizens.
The task of the senior citizens' representatives is to
- to actively promote the social participation and participation of the over 60 year olds and
- to represent the interests of the older generation in public and towards the authorities and district offices.
The committees of the district assemblies can consult the members of the senior citizens' advisory councils as competent persons with the right to speak. The senior citizens' representatives influence problems that are important for the elderly. Topics are, for example, housing and local supply, mobility and accessibility, health care and care.
The state senior citizens' advisory board is involved in many committees and projects, advises the specialist authority and informs the senate and the citizenship every two years about its activities.
