Apply for first registration of a vehicle (new registration)

Prerequisites

• Her main residence is in Hamburg.
• For companies: Their registered office or place of business is located in Hamburg.
• You own a new vehicle.

Documents required

• valid identity card, electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with current registration certificate
• Registration certificate part II (vehicle title; if filled out by the manufacturer)
• CoC document or EEC Certificate of Conformity
• Electronic insurance confirmation as an eVB code (available from your car insurance company)
• Original SEPA direct debit mandate for the collection of vehicle tax (form available under Services and Links). If the tax is to be paid not by the vehicle owner but by a third party, a copy of the third party's identification document is required.
• Appointment confirmation
• When registering a motorhome: original purchase contract or invoice

Additionally, if another person is submitting the application on your behalf:

• Original power of attorney
• Copy of the principal's identity card
• Original identity card of the authorized representative

Additionally for companies or associations:

• Company or association proof (for example, extract from the commercial register or extract from the register of associations)

The LBV reserves the right to conduct an identity check on the vehicle in individual cases. The vehicle may need to be presented for this purpose.

Please note that if you are deregistering your previous vehicle at the same time (appointment "Registration of a brand-new vehicle and deregistration"), additional documents are required. You can find information on what you need for deregistration under "Deregistering a vehicle".

Procedure

• Book an appointment online.
  • On our website for booking appointments, select the category "Vehicle registration"
  • Then book "Registration of a brand-new vehicle (except motorhomes) " or "Registration of a brand-new motorhome or registration of a brand-new vehicle and deregistration"
  • You will receive an email. Confirm your reserved appointment using the link in the email.
• Please bring all necessary documents and the appointment confirmation with you to your appointment at the LBV.
• Scan the QR code on your appointment confirmation using the scanner on site.
• Take a seat in the waiting area. You will be called by your call number.
• Your request is being processed. Your vehicle is registered.

Alternatively, you can register your vehicle online using the online service Internet-based vehicle registration (i-Kfz).

Processing time

New registration is usually granted immediately.

Fees

The fees for initial registration range from EUR 26.30 to EUR 60.00.


The exact amount can only be determined on-site based on the complete documentation. This is based on the Fee Schedule for Measures in Road Traffic (GebOSt).
