Public veterinary services protect the health of animals and humans. They are an important part of consumer protection, agriculture, the food industry, and animal welfare.
The tasks of the public veterinary service are:
- Prevention and control of diseases, especially those transmissible from animals to humans and animals,
- Maintaining and developing the health of farm animals,
- Protecting humans from dangers and harm caused by animal diseases,
- Protecting people from health hazards and harm, as well as from deception and misleading information through food and products of animal origin,
- Maintaining and improving the quality of food,
- Protecting the environment from harmful influences emanating from animals, animal products and waste,
- Protecting the life and well-being of animals and preventing pain and suffering.
