You are an insurance intermediary if you:

  • Insurance agent
  • or are active as insurance brokers.

You are an insurance agent if you professionally broker insurance contracts for one or more insurers and are bound to the insurance company by an agency agreement.



You are an insurance broker if you independently broker insurance contracts on behalf of and in the interest of clients.

You can request permission in writing and by email.

  • You download the application form from the relevant Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).
  • You fill out the application form.
  • You send the application with the required documents to the responsible authority.
  • Your documents will be reviewed.
  • You will receive permission and, if you have applied for this, will be entered in the insurance intermediary register.
