Apply for leave to leave

A leave permit allows you to leave Germany for a specific period of time without losing your residence permit and to re-enter later. Information on the dates, costs, duration, and required documents can be found here.

Detailed description

If you are a foreign national living in Germany with a temporary suspension of deportation (Duldung) or a temporary residence permit (Aufenthaltswillige), the responsible authority will usually specify a specific city or region where you must reside. If you fail to comply with these requirements for your place of residence, you may lose your temporary suspension of deportation (Duldung) or temporary residence permit (Aufenthaltswillige).

If you wish to leave your designated place of residence, you must apply for a leave to remain permit. This permit ensures that your temporary suspension of deportation (Duldung) or residence permit (Aufenthaltsbewilligung) does not expire while you are away.

The leave permit is temporary. After it expires, you must return to your place of residence if you wish to retain your temporary suspension of deportation (Duldung) or temporary residence permit (Aufenthaltsgestattung). Whether you can be granted a leave permit depends on your individual immigration situation. You must apply for the leave permit.
