You have the right to request confirmation from the tax office as to whether personal data concerning you is being processed.



If you would like to know which of your personal data the tax office has processed, you can request information.

Prerequisites

  • You are requesting information about the processing of your own personal data or
  • You have a valid power of attorney that entitles you to obtain information on the processing of another person's personal data.

Documents required

  • Proof of identity (for example, identity card or passport)
  • If applicable: Power of attorney

If you have specific questions about the processing of personal data in the tax offices, you can submit a request to the head of the data protection department of the respective tax office or to the data protection officer of the tax administration.

Procedure

  • You submit your application to the responsible authority - either digitally via the online portal "mein ELSTER", in writing or orally at a previously agreed appointment.
  • In your application, you must provide your full name, address and tax identification number, and attach the necessary documents.
  • The tax office will review your application and your identity.
  • You will usually receive the information in writing.

Processing time

The tax office must provide you with the information no later than one month after receiving your application. In exceptional cases, this deadline can be extended by two months, but you must be informed of this in writing.
