Identity card, registration of a religious or artist name

Prerequisites

Religious or pseudonymous name on identity card, passport or population register, otherwise certificate from the Ministry of the Interior and Sport, Office for Migration.

Documents required

• Current passport photo, which must meet the photo requirements for electronic ID cards.
  The requirements for the passport photo can be found in the photo sample table (see link “Federal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland - Photo sample table”, at the bottom of this page under “Forms, Service & Links”).
  
  A photo booth (speed capture terminal) is available. The fee for a photo on site is EUR 6.00. You will not receive a printout. Please note that the existing photo booth is not suitable for taking passport photos of infants and small children.
  
• ID card
• Proof from the Ministry of the Interior and Sport - Office for Migration - of the right to use a religious or stage name (see link)
• When registering a doctoral title - proof of the doctoral title (certificate of possession from the university/college or certificate of award)

Please note

The entry of a religious or artist name or a doctorate is always associated with the issue of a new identity card.

The doctorate can be entered as the only academic degree in official documents.

Procedure

Personal application required. The application will be forwarded to Bundesdruckerei for further processing.

Processing time

Application takes about 15 minutes. Processing time approx. 4 weeks.

Fees

There are fees for the reissue of the ID card (up to 24 years EUR 22.80, from 24 years EUR 28.80 (from 01.01.2021: from 24 years EUR 37)). Granting of authorization at the Ministry of the Interior and Sport 30 EUR.
