License plate, taken after moving from outside

Prerequisites

You can only apply for taking it with you if your main place of residence is in Hamburg. If necessary, the change of residence must have already taken place.

Documents required

The following documents must be submitted for the application:

• a valid identity card or valid passport with a current registration certificate
• the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration)
• the registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
• the valid test certificate of the last main inspection (HU), if this was already due for the first time and, if applicable, proof of the last safety test and emissions test
• consent of all legal guardians in the case of persons who are not fully legally competent
• SEPA direct debit mandate in the original to collect the vehicle tax (if the tax is not to be paid by the owner himself, but by a so-called third party who is willing to pay, a copy of the third party's ID card must be presented.)
• the appointment confirmation

Additionally for companies:

• proof of company (e.g. extract from the commercial register)

In addition, if an authorized representative submits the application on your behalf:

• the legibly completed power of attorney in the original with a legible color copy of the principal’s ID. Note: The color copy must be labeled "COPY".
• the original of the authorized representative's ID card

Residence under registration law
You can only take the license plate with you if you have re-registered and the address on your ID is the new Hamburg address.

Appointment booking
Appointments are booked via the LBV. Proceed as follows here:
1. Visit the website for booking an appointment (see link below) and select the service description of a vehicle and license plate transfer under the service group registration, private customers
2. Use the location selection to display appointments at a specific location.
3. After selecting the location, use the calendar displayed to select a free appointment (date and time).
4. Now enter your name and your e-mail address for booking.
5. You will receive an email. Please confirm the appointment.

Please bring the appointment confirmation that you will receive with you to the appointment.

Fees

Taking your license plate with you costs between EUR 19.20 and EUR 50.00. The exact amount of the costs can only be determined on site on the basis of the submission of the complete documents. The basis for the fee level is the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt).
