Additionally for companies or associations:
The existing license plate number can only be reused if it was reserved for this purpose when the vehicle was deregistered. If the license plate number was not reserved during deregistration, or if the vehicle is being re-registered to a different owner, a new license plate number must be applied for.
If the registered keeper and the owner of the vehicle are not the same person, the LBV (State Office for Roads and Transportation) must be notified of the person in whose name the vehicle is to be registered. This applies, for example, to leased vehicles.
If a general inspection, emissions test or safety inspection was due during the period between the deregistration and the reregistration of the vehicle, this must be carried out before the vehicle is re-registered.
If the details of the last registered owner have changed in the meantime, they will also be updated upon re-registration. This is the case, for example, if you have moved or if you have purchased a deregistered used vehicle.
If the last vehicle and owner data in the Central Vehicle Register have already been deleted (7 years after deregistration) and the data can no longer be verified otherwise, an expert opinion from an officially recognized expert is required.
Journeys related to the vehicle registration process may also be undertaken with assigned, unsealed license plates, provided the insurance covers this. Such journeys include trips to the vehicle inspection (MOT/TÜV) and to the registration office. These journeys are limited to the registration district and adjacent registration districts.
Re-registration must take place immediately if the vehicle is to be used again.
Alternatively, you can register your vehicle online using the online service Internet-based vehicle registration (i-Kfz).
Re-admission is usually immediate.
The fees range between EUR 23.00 and EUR 50.00.
The exact amount can only be determined on site based on the complete documentation.
