Vehicle registration within Hamburg

Prerequisites

The vehicle can only be re-registered with the LBV if the main residence of the keeper under registration law is in Hamburg. A personal change of registration must have already taken place.

Documents required

The following documents must be submitted for approval:

• a valid identity card or passport with a current confirmation of registration
• the vehicle documents (registration certificate part I and II) or a de-registration certificate
• the electronic confirmation of insurance as an eVB code (available from the motor vehicle insurance company)
• the previous license plates if new license plates are to be or must be issued
• a declaration of consent from all legal guardians in the case of minors/persons who are not fully legally competent
• Proof of the valid main inspection (TÜV) and, if applicable, proof of the safety check and emissions test that has been carried out
• an original SEPA combined mandate for collecting vehicle tax by direct debit (form can be found under Services and Links)
  If the tax is not to be paid by the owner himself, but by a so-called third party who is willing to pay, a copy of the third party's ID card must be submitted.
• a right of disposal (e.g. purchase agreement, certificate of inheritance, donation agreement) if the new owner has not yet been entered in the vehicle documents
• the appointment confirmation

additionally, if an authorized representative submits the application on your behalf

• the legibly completed power of attorney in the original with a legible color copy of the principal’s ID. Note: The color copy must be labeled "COPY".
• the original of the authorized representative's ID card

Companies or associations must also submit the following documents:

• Proof of company/association (e.g. an extract from the commercial register or an extract from the register of associations)

if an authorized representative submits the application

• the legibly completed power of attorney in the original with a legible color copy of the identity card of the person authorized to act. Note: The color copy must be labeled "COPY".
• the original of the authorized representative's ID card

Appointment booking
Appointments are booked via the LBV. Proceed as follows here:
1. Visit the website for booking an appointment (see link below) and select the service description of a vehicle under the service group Registration, private customers. If you want to deregister an old vehicle at the same time, please select Description of a vehicle and deregistration.

2. Use the location selection to display appointments at a specific location.
3. After selecting the location, use the calendar displayed to select a free appointment (date and time).
4. Now enter your name and your e-mail address for booking.
5. You will receive an email. Please confirm the appointment.
Please bring the appointment confirmation that you will receive with you to the appointment.

If the keeper and owner of the vehicle are not identical (as is the case with leasing vehicles, for example), the LBV must be informed of whom the vehicle is to be registered for.

Deadlines

A vehicle registration must be made immediately.

Fees

The fees amount to between 19.20 EUR and 60.00 EUR. The exact amount of the fee can only be determined on site after reviewing the complete documents. The basis is the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt).
