New immigrants under 18 years are required regardless of their residence status in Hamburg to attend school.
Preparatory classes (AvM-Dual - dualized training preparation for migrants) have been set up at the Hamburg vocational schools for young people aged 16 and 17 , in which the young people learn the German language, receive professional orientation and have the opportunity at the end of the Preparatory classes to obtain a school leaving certificate.
School attendance for young people 16-18 years from another country / federal state without sufficient knowledge of the German language
The HIBB information center is responsible for the schooling of school-age young people aged 16-18 who are new to Hamburg and have little / no knowledge of German. Make an appointment for a consultation at the HIBB information center by calling 428 63 - 4236 or by email at Informationszentrum@hibb.hamburg.de
Both the school registration and an initial assessment of the proficiency level take place via the information center HIBB (IZ-HIBB).
Regardless of age, the IZ-HIBB's target group also includes all unaccompanied minor refugees .
Newly immigrated children and young people under the age of 16 who are in Hamburg with their parents or other family members are not the target group of the IZ-HIBB. These children and adolescents should contact the School Information Center (SIZ).
