Detailed description
Newly immigrated young people under the age of 18 are obliged to attend school in Hamburg, regardless of their residence status.
For 16- and 17-year-old newly arrived young people, preparatory classes (AvM-Dual - Dualized training preparation for migrants) have been set up at Hamburg's vocational schools, in which the young people learn the German language, receive vocational orientation and have the opportunity to obtain a school leaving certificate at the end of the preparatory classes.
School attendance for young people aged 16-18 from other countries/federal states without sufficient knowledge of the German language.
The HIBB information center is responsible for the education of school-age young people aged 16-18 who are new to Hamburg and have little or no knowledge of German. Make an appointment for a consultation at the HIBB information center by calling 428 63 - 4236 or by emailing Informationszentrum@hibb.hamburg.de
Both school registration and an initial assessment of performance level are carried out via the HIBB Information Center (IZ-HIBB).
Regardless of age, the IZ-HIBB target group also includes all unaccompanied minor refugees.
Newly immigrated children and young people under the age of 16 who are in Hamburg with their parents or other family members are not the target group of the IZ-HIBB. These children and young people should contact the School Information Center (SIZ).
