Section 1 of the road traffic regulations already requires mutual consideration for all road users. This is even more true when it comes to parking, because all motorists deserve a fair chance at a parking space. The city of Hamburg is trying to enforce this with increased parking controls, but is also appealing to you - the Hamburg motorists.
Promote parking equity
Just like you, other motorists have an interest in finding a parking space on their daily errands. Please don't just think of yourself, but also of the others with these small actions.
- Observe and comply with the prescribed maximum parking time
- use public transport, also in combination with the well-developed Park & Ride facilities in and around Hamburg
- place their valid parking ticket or parking disc in the car where it is clearly visible
Increased control of parking areas
Parking spaces in public street space are in great demand and are therefore often difficult to find. Wrong parkers and long-term parkers play a large part in the fact that other drivers can no longer use any of the approximately 6,500 parking spaces on the streets of downtown Hamburg.
Since March 2013, the city of Hamburg has therefore been increasingly active in parking space surveillance in the city center and will gradually expand the area to include the inner-city core area. This is intended to increase fairness in parking so that all drivers have a fair chance of finding a parking space.
Therefore, every parking space in the controlled area is checked several times a week by the employees of Hamburg's parking space management and the police. With the resolution, the Senate is pursuing the following goals:
- fair chances for short-term parkers and residents to find a parking space
- Fair charging for all drivers
- more free parking spaces
- a better flow of traffic and a better quality of life by saving time when looking for a parking space
Wrong and long-term parkers must therefore always reckon with a warning fee. If your wrongly parked vehicle has been towed away, you will find further information below. The Hamburg Port Authority is responsible for towed vehicles in the Hamburg port area.
