Stopping and parking, apply for an exemption for parking as a craftsman

If you run a craft business, you can apply for a parking permit. With this you can park for the duration of your work assignment, for example in resident parking areas.

Important notes

Prerequisites

In principle, the same regulations apply to all visitors and short-term parkers in the managed parking area. Exceptions to this are only granted in urgent individual cases.

  • This is the case if it is imperative to park the vehicle on site because the specific activity or its particular urgency is necessary (e.g. to avoid specific imminent dangers such as a burst water pipe or power failure). Such an exemption does not serve to simplify organization or save time.
  • The application must therefore contain information on the purpose of vehicle use and the work carried out.
  • In the case of exceptions for assembly vehicles, the vehicle must have an entry in the vehicle registration document as an assembly vehicle or workshop vehicle. Alternatively, you can submit images that clearly show the license plate and the installation of a fixed workbench (or similar according to the application documents) and the outside of the vehicle with lettering/branding/company logo.
  • If an exception is only to apply to certain streets or a pedestrian zone, more detailed location information may be required.

Documents required

  • an application either on the company header with justification for the application or via the LBV application form (see forms)
  • a copy of the registration certificate part I of the vehicle for which the approval is to apply (or the vehicle registration document in the case of old papers)
  • an explanation of vehicle use and its importance to the operation
  • a copy of the business registration or extract from the commercial register
You are welcome to use our digital application process to apply (see link above). Alternatively, you can also submit your application in person or by post, provided that all the necessary documents are available or have been sent along.

Please note

In the case of urgent emergency work, the special permit may be used for a maximum of five hours.
An exemption is issued for a specific vehicle and is not transferable to other vehicles. The number plate is entered in the exception approval. If you change vehicles, you can apply for a fee-based license plate change during the validity period of the special permit.
The local police departments are responsible for special permits with a validity period of up to three months.
The State Office for Transport is responsible for special permits with a validity period of more than three months.

Deadlines

The period of validity of the exemption is one year.

Procedure & Fees

Procedure

You are welcome to use our digital application process to apply (see link under Links). Alternatively, you can also submit your application by post or e-mail, provided that all the necessary documents are available or have been sent along.
The Landesbetrieb Verkehr (LBV) checks your application and sends you the exemption or rejection by post.
Questions on your part or on the part of the LBV can be processed via the digital application process or by telephone or e-mail.

Processing time

The processing time is usually 2 - 6 weeks.

Fees

The fee for a special permit depends, among other things, on its period of validity. Please refer to the overview below for the respective fee amount.

Please note that in the event of a rejection, fees of 75% will also apply. The basis for this is the Administrative Costs Act (VwKostG) in conjunction with the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt). With the application there is no legal entitlement to the issue of a special permit.

Subsequent withdrawal of an application is also subject to a fee. In this case, there is a fee of 50% of the actual fee for issuing the exemption.

Fees for an exemption with a period of validity of:

  • 6 months - 150.00 EUR *

  • 12 months - 250.00 EUR *

  • 18 months - 350.00 EUR *

  • 24 months - 450.00 EUR *

  • 30 months - 550.00 EUR *

  • 36 months - 650.00 EUR *

* (plus 0.30 EUR per adhesive seal)

Service description

You can obtain a parking permit from the Landesbetrieb Verkehr (LBV) for vehicles in your workshop. This can, for example, entitle you to park free of charge in restricted parking zones, in resident parking zones or in parking space management zones (parking spaces with parking meters or parking ticket machines). The exemption only applies to certain individual activities of the company. Note the exact content of the exemption. When using the exemption, other people in particular must not be endangered or hindered.

You can apply for an exemption that is valid for up to three months . This can be an option for you, for example, if you only carry out construction or installation work on an object over a period of several days or weeks and only need an exception for certain streets.
You can also apply for a special permit with a longer term of more than three months . These permits are particularly relevant if you have regular emergency and/or assembly work to be carried out at different locations.
