deregister business

Prerequisites

Your business must currently be registered in Hamburg.

You must deregister your business:

• as a sole trader,
• as a managing partner of a partnership or
• as a personally liable partner of a KG or
• as a limited partner with management authority in a limited partnership or
• as a legal representative of a corporation (e.g. GmbH, AG)

if your business

• want to set or dissolve,
• want to move to a different area of responsibility than the current one or
• want to change the legal form of your business.

Documents required

• Copy of your identity card or passport with registration certificate or presentation of the documents on site.
• In the case of electronic business deregistration, self-declaration of identity.
• Copy of the commercial register extract if your company is registered in the commercial register (also: cooperative register, association register)

Please note

If it is clear that the business will be discontinued and you do not deregister your business, the deregistration will be carried out ex officio.

You can also register your business at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the Hamburg Chamber of Crafts.

Entry in the commercial register does not replace the notification in accordance with Section 14 GewO (duty of notification). The business must therefore be registered separately with the responsible district office.

Deadlines

You are obliged to deregister your business at the time the business is dissolved or at the time the business is relocated to the area of responsibility of another federal state or the legal form changes.


Business deregistration in advance is only possible if the exact date of the closure of the business is known and can be done no more than three months in advance.

Procedure

You can deregister your business in person or in writing using a form. When deregistering a business using a written or electronic form, attach a copy of all required documents.
It is recommended that you deregister your business in writing.

If you de-register in person or in writing, you must fill out the “Business De-registration” form and sign it personally. You can obtain the “Business De-registration” form from the Altona District Office, the Chamber of Commerce or the Chamber of Crafts.

In the electronic process you provide the same data as when you unsubscribe in person. You do not need the form and you do not have to sign it in person.

Send the documents to the relevant authority.
The authority will check your documents and, if necessary, request further documents or information from you.

The authority will inform you of the amount of fees to be paid.
You pay the fees.

You will receive a certificate from the authority for your business de-registration.

If you have filled out the form correctly and your documents are complete, the authority will immediately confirm receipt of your deregistration if you visit us in person. If you deregister in writing or electronically, you will receive confirmation of receipt of your business deregistration within 3-10 days.

Fees

Costs: There are no costs


Cost (fixed): 10 euros (for each additional copy of the certificate)




There are no costs for the first-time business registration. You pay a fee of EUR 10 for each additional copy of the certificate. You can request this personally on site or in writing (fax, email, post) with a copy of your ID. If you request the certificate in writing, you will receive a fee notice.
