There are more than 6,000 km of sidewalks in Hamburg. The cleaning obligation for these sidewalks is divided:
The sidewalks that are not in the path cleaning directory must be cleaned by the respective residents. As a rule, you are a resident as the owner of a piece of land or property that borders on a sidewalk. As a tenant of a piece of land or a property, you are also a resident. As a tenant, you can be given the obligation to clean the adjacent sidewalk by your landlord.
If you as a resident are obliged to clean a sidewalk, you must, for example, clear it of leaves, snow, ice and garbage and keep it so clean all year round that the risk of accidents is eliminated.
The sidewalks that are in the path cleaning directory are cleaned by the city cleaning department.
