It operates via text messages instead of spoken language, ensuring fast and secure communication between you and the police.

  • You have a text-to-text (TTY) telephone, a deaf-phone, or an app/software that can send text messages over the telephone network or the Internet.

Procedure

  • You dial the special emergency number for deaf people, in Germany 110 via TTY, or use an approved relay service.
  • You enter your message clearly and describe the emergency, including your location, the nature of the incident, and the urgency.
  • You send the message to the police or the relay service via the deaf phone or the app.
  • You wait for the police's response, which will be sent to you either directly in text form or via the relay service.
  • If necessary, you can answer questions from the police by entering the information via the deaf telephone.
  • They stay near your device until the police arrive or the emergency is resolved.
