Detailed description
To do this, you must first attend a training course of at least two and a half days from a recognized course organizer. You then have to pass an examination at the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK).
The examination for dangerous goods drivers is usually carried out by the locally responsible Chamber of Industry and Commerce following the relevant training in the training organizer's premises.

The duration of the examination is:
Initial training
- Basic course 45 minutes
- Advanced tank course 45 minutes
- Advanced course class 1 30 minutes
- Advanced course class 7 30 minutes
- 30 minute refresher training
The ADR training certificate is valid for five years from the date of passing the basic test. To extend the ADR training certificate for a further 5 years, a refresher training must be attended and the refresher test must be passed. This must be done before the ADR training certificate expires. If the validity date has passed, an initial training course and examination must be completed.
ADR training certificates are extended for a further 5 years from the validity date if the refresher training has been successfully completed within 12 months before the ADR training certificate expires.
