Apply for a driving license to transport passengers

Prerequisites

• They possess the necessary personal reliability.
• They possess the necessary physical and mental aptitude.
• They have sufficient eyesight.
• You have a German driving licence of class B in the format of the new EU card driving licence (issue date from 01 January 1999).
  • If your driver's license was issued before this date, you must exchange it beforehand. You must also exchange any foreign driver's license beforehand.
• Your main residence is in Hamburg.
• They must be at least 21 years old. (The minimum age for ambulance drivers is 19.)
• You must have held a Class B driving licence for at least 2 years within the last 5 years (one year is sufficient for ambulances).

Documents required

• a valid identity card or an electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with current registration confirmation
• a German EU card driving licence (issue date from 01 January 1999 onwards, older driving licences must be exchanged beforehand)
• an ophthalmological report in accordance with Annex 6.2 of the Driving Licence Regulations (FeV), not older than two years
• a medical certificate in accordance with Annex 5.1 of the German Driving License Regulations (FeV), not older than one year
• a medical certificate in accordance with Annex 5.2 FeV, not older than one year (occupational or company physician)
• A certificate of good conduct that is no more than three months old at the time of application (marker O for official purposes, to be requested from the registration office)
• the appointment confirmation

Additionally, when applying for an ambulance:

• Proof of participation in a first aid training course

Please note

If you have a Class D driving license, you do not need a separate driving license for passenger transport. A driving license for passenger transport is also not required.required for:

• Ambulances of the Bundeswehr, the Federal Police, the police as well as the troops and civilian entourage of the other states party to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO),
• Ambulances of the civil protection service, if they are used for this purpose,
• Ambulances of the fire departments and rescue services recognized under state law.

You can request occupational and company physicians for the examination according to Annex 5 FeV from the Medical Association

Deadlines

The driving licence for passenger transport is currently issued for a maximum of 2 years (until there is a new regulation regarding proof of the specialist knowledge test).


This should be renewed in good time (4 to 6 weeks before the expiry date).

Procedure

• You book an appointment online.
  • On our website for booking appointments, select the category "Driver's License"
  • Book the appointment "Application for passenger transport ticket"
  • You will receive an email. Confirm your reservation using the link in the email.
• Bring all necessary documents and the appointment confirmation with you to your appointment at the LBV.
• Scan the QR code on your appointment confirmation using the scanner on site.
• Take a seat in the waiting area. You will be called by your call number.
• Your request will be processed on site.
• If all necessary documents are available and the requirements are met, you will be issued with a driver’s license to transport passengers immediately.

45.40 EUR


If the old driver's license also needs to be exchanged for the EU card driver's license, additional fees of between EUR 26.50 and EUR 65.70 will apply. The exact exchange costs can only be determined after reviewing all the documents. The fee amount is based on the German Fee Schedule for Measures in Road Traffic (GebOSt).
