Class BE is required to carry a trailer with a permissible total weight of 750 to 3,500 kg with the car. The application is submitted to the driving license authority.
The required documents can usually be handed in to the driving instructor, who then applies for the driver's license to the driver's license authority for the customer.
Important notes
Prerequisites
- The application can be submitted at the earliest 1/2 year before reaching the minimum age.
- The main residence is Hamburg
- The lessons in a driving school have been completed (the application is made beforehand.)
- The theoretical and practical test was passed successfully (the application is made beforehand).
- Class B already exists or is being applied for in parallel.
- Minimum age: 18 years
Documents required
- Valid identity card or passport with current registration certificate
- A biometric passport photo 35 X 45 mm
- Certificate of participation in immediate measures at the scene of the accident or first aid (there are different providers, the LBV is not allowed to recommend any providers for reasons of competition law)
- Eye test (by an optician or ophthalmologist, validity: max. 2 years from the date of issue)

Validity of driving licenses
The validity of the driver's license issued from January 19, 2013 is limited to 15 years, after which a new issue is required. The driving license remains valid - no new test is required. Driver's licenses issued before January 19, 2013 must be exchanged by January 19, 2033 at the latest.
