Driver's license, replacement after theft or loss

Prerequisites

To apply, you must have your main residence in Hamburg. The application must be made in person.

Documents required

• a valid identity card or passport with current registration confirmation
• a biometric passport photo 35 x 45 millimeters
• a copy of the index card , if the driver's license was not issued in Hamburg and is still in the old paper format (the applicant can apply for the copy himself or instruct the LBV to do so, which can, however, delay the process).
• the appointment confirmation

Additionally in the event of theft : report from the police (for foreign reports, a translation by a sworn translator is required)

Please note

Loss or theft of other vehicle documents
If you have lost any other vehicle documents, please book another appointment when you register.

Finding your driver's license
If the lost driver's license is found again, you have to hand it over to the LBV, as you are not allowed to have two driver's license documents.
You can hand them in at the information desk at any time or by registered mail to the LBV.

Validity of driving licenses
Driving licenses issued on or after January 19, 2013 are limited to a period of fifteen years. A reissue is required after the validity has expired. Driver's licenses issued before January 19, 2013 must be exchanged by January 19, 2033 at the latest.

Appointment booking
Proceed as follows here:
1. Visit the website for booking an appointment (see link below) and select the service group driver's license the service driver's license theft in the event of theft or the service driver's license loss / replacement for a damaged driver's license if the driver's license is lost.
2. Use the location selection to display appointments at a specific location.
3. After selecting the location, use the calendar displayed to select a free appointment (date and time).
4. Now enter your name and your e-mail address for booking.
5. You will receive an email. Please confirm the appointment.

Please bring the appointment confirmation that you will receive with you to the appointment.

Processing time

After Bundesdruckerei Berlin has issued your driving license, it will be sent to you by registered post within three to four weeks.


You also have the option of applying for an express order. The production takes a maximum of three working days. In this case, the driver's license must be collected from the LBV.

Fees

The fees are between EUR 46.50 and EUR 77.50. The exact cost amount can only be determined after the complete documents have been submitted. An additional EUR 26.40 is charged for an express order. The basis for this is the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt).
