Documents required

Identity card or passport (foreign nationals - with the exception of EU citizens - also: residence permit with entitlement to self-employed. The same applies to comparable employment as managing director of a legal entity or representative of a natural person.). Proof of specialist knowledge (examination usually via the Chamber of Industry and Commerce), tax. Clearance certificate for companies that are registered in the commercial register: extract from the commercial register.

Deadlines

The permit expires if the activity is not started within one year of being granted or if it is not carried out for 1 year. Extension of the deadline possible for special reasons. If the application is from a legal person (e.g. GmbH, KG, OHG), the evidence mentioned must be submitted both for the legal person (with the exception of the personal papers) and for every natural person authorized to represent (e.g. managing director).
