Prerequisites
If the profession of engineer is regulated in an EU member state as the country of origin, in addition to an equivalent degree, three years of professional experience must be proven after completing the degree. An equivalent qualification exists if there are no significant differences between the foreign qualification and the corresponding German qualification. It is necessary that the authorization to practice the profession independently in the country of origin is given.
If the profession is not regulated in the country of origin, proof must be provided that the profession was practiced full-time for two years (from 2016 one year) in the previous ten years and that one or more certificates of qualification or training exist.
The same applies to third-country nationals, insofar as there is equal status with regard to the recognition of training certificates under European Community law.
In any case, in addition to the job title 'Ingenieur / in' for the use of the job titles 'Consulting Engineer' in Hamburg, the professional activity must be self-dependent and independent.
