The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) is an authority within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development with offices in Hamburg and Rostock. With 851 employees and an annual budget of around 69 million euros, it fulfills a complex range of tasks as an important maritime service provider in Germany.

From April 1, 2016, the Maritime Hotline will be on call around the clock for shipowners, seafarers, authorities and other bodies for technical issues such as emergencies.

With the new offer, the BSH and the ship safety department are expanding the availability for shipping-related questions. This means that direct contact with the German flag is possible at all times of the day and night, as well as on Sundays and public holidays, in order to be able to answer questions about shipping and clarify urgent cases.
