Exemption, extension of the driving license test

Prerequisites

• there must be an urgent individual case that has to be checked and decided individually by the Landesbetrieb Verkehr
• the 12-month period must not have expired
• no driving lessons may be taken within the period of illness
• There may be a gap of no more than one month between the practical driving lessons taken (exception if a corresponding certificate is presented, which justifies this).

Documents required

• informal application with detailed reasons for urgency
• Proof of training from the driving school
• Copy of identity card (front and back),
• Certificate stating that the learner driver was not allowed to take driving lessons for medical reasons. The period of illness must be at least one month and must be proven precisely on the medical certificate.

Each individual case must always be applied for in writing with detailed reasons at the exception approval management, Ausschläger Weg 100, 20537 Hamburg.

Please note that the examination period can be extended by a maximum of three months.

Section 74 (1) in conjunction with Section 18 (2) of the Driving License Ordinance

The practical test must be taken within 12 months of passing the theory test. In justified individual cases, this period can be extended by the duration of a proven illness, for example, but up to a maximum of three months.

If these deadlines cannot be met, a new application must be made through the driving school, as the entire test has to be repeated. This means that the registration fees will be charged again.
