Vehicles that do not comply with the building and operating regulations of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) or European law are not permitted in Germany. This can include, for example, vehicles with a specified design or imported vehicles whose vehicle conversion would be disproportionate. You can apply for a special permit at the Landesbetrieb Verkehr.
Important notes
Documents required
The scope of the documents for applying for an exemption differs from case to case. However, the following documents are required as a minimum:
- an application according to § 70 StVZO with justification and information which or which vehicle / vehicle combination is affected and for what period
- an expert opinion from an officially recognized expert for motor vehicle traffic in order to obtain an exemption according to § 70 StVZO
- a valid identity card or passport with confirmation of registration
- the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration)
- if necessary, a power of attorney

Please use the entrance at Süderstraße 142. Sign embossers can be found on site. QR codes for appointment confirmations can be scanned as long as the display of your mobile device is not cracked or otherwise damaged.
