Detailed description
After registering at the registration office, au pairs from EU member states and from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway will receive a certificate from the immigration office about their right of residence under Community law.
Citizens of Switzerland can obtain a (declaratory) residence permit from the immigration authorities to certify their right of residence.
Au pairs who are nationals of Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand and the United States of America can enter Germany without a visa regardless of the purpose and length of their stay. You have to apply for the residence permit at the immigration authorities responsible for your place of residence within 3 months after entering the federal territory. As a citizen of the above-mentioned countries, one should contact the German diplomatic mission abroad regarding the question of whether entry with a visa for au pair employment is recommended despite the fact that there is basically no visa requirement.
Citizens of Croatia need an EU work permit from the Employment Agency to work as an au pair.
