Prerequisites
Equivalence with the "Mittlere Schulabschluss" is confirmed in the vocational school leaving certificate, provided the average grade is at least 3.0 (excluding sport), sufficient knowledge of a foreign language can be proven and at least two years of vocational training in a recognized occupation has been completed. State vocational school instruction must have been at least twelve hours per week.
Documents required
For the subsequent award of the first general school leaving certificate (formerly the secondary school leaving certificate), the final certificate from the state vocational school in Hamburg must be submitted in the original or as an officially certified copy. For the subsequent award of the middle school leaving certificate (formerly the secondary school leaving certificate), the following must be presented: the main school leaving certificate, the leaving certificate from the state vocational school in Hamburg and the journeyman's certificate or examination certificate from the chamber in the original or as officially certified copies.

Certificates from state vocational schools that were acquired before the 1997/98 school year and do not contain an equivalency note can be checked for subsequent recognition in the school information center.
