If you wish to operate as a testing, monitoring or certification body in the construction industry, you need accreditation from the relevant authority.
The authority responsible for granting accreditation is generally determined by the location of your institution's registered office. However, most German states – including the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg – have delegated this task to the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt).
They are impartial, possess sufficient technical competence and experience, and have suitable premises and technical equipment. The responsible authority will inform you about further requirements.

The German federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia have also transferred the responsibility for recognition to the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt).
In the German states of Bremen, Lower Saxony and Saarland, the highest building supervisory authorities of the respective state are responsible.
