Before filing for consumer insolvency, a debtor must first visit a debt counseling center.

Written enquiries should only be made by post or fax. The fax number provided is the deadline. Processing via email is not possible.

The bankruptcy court is responsible for proceedings up to 1998. For proceedings from 1999 onwards, only the insolvency court is responsible.

You can use the internet portal 'Insolvency Announcements' to check whether proceedings (Germany-wide private and corporate insolvency) are underway (see link).

Questions as to whether insolvency applications have been filed can only be submitted in writing to the insolvency court.
