Detailed description

Due to the Transparency Act, every person has the right to access all information from the reporting agency. Restrictions with regard to certain requested information are possible, however, since the law contains certain exclusions according to which information is not to be released.


- The request for information must be sent to the authority that is responsible for providing information on the matter.


- If the body called is not obliged to provide information itself, it must identify the body responsible for providing information and advise the person making the application.

Since October 6, 2012, the Hamburg Transparency Act, which replaces the Hamburg Freedom of Information Act, has granted everyone free access to official information.

Procedure

If possible, the request for information should be made in writing to geschaeftsstellehmbtg@bkm.hamburg.de.


An electronic or verbal application is permitted, however.

Processing time

As a rule, the requested information is provided within one month. In cases of greater complexity in the request for information, the deadline can be extended by a further month.

Fees

Fees are usually charged for deciding on requests for information. The amount of the fees is based on the fee schedule for information according to the Hamburg Transparency Act (HmbTGGebO). Simple information is free of charge.
